Description
The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) invests in U.S. large‑cap equities that are components of the Consumer Staples Select Sector Index, covering companies that produce essential goods such as food, beverages, household products, personal care items, tobacco and related retailers. Its strategy is a passively managed, market‑capitalization‑weighted replication of that index, providing broad exposure to the domestic consumer‑staples sector. Because the sector tends to be less cyclical and offers relatively stable cash flows, XLP can be suitable for investors seeking defensive positioning, income potential, or diversification within a core equity portfolio.
